Hellboy 2 – July 11, 2008

They are really pushing Hellboy 2, The Golden Army, and making it look good. It will be in theatres July 11, 2008 (PG-13). The advertisements are pretty cool. They are so funny! Follow the link below to watch them:  Hellboy 2 – Push that movie!

Review of Disney and Pixar’s Wall-e

We highly recommend this movie to everyone. It was great! There was nothing in it that would be bad for the kids to see, no swearing, nothing disturbing. It was just plain fun and  had everyone in a full theatre laughing!

Kung Fu Panda Review

We’ve been to see Kung Fu Panda twice now. The kids and I really enjoyed the movie. The second time we took grandma with us and she loved it. As we left she said, “Good movie, very uplifting.” Click here for more: Kung Fu Panda Review and some trivia on Jack Black and Angelina Jolie. I mentioned to my younger son that she has adopted children from different countries and he said, “Oh, I get it. Like souvenirs.”

Reviews: Get Smart PG-13

I am being harassed. The kids want to see Get Smart which is rated PG-13. Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network are showing previews for this movie relentlessly. If you’ve seen the movie, let me know if it deserves the PG-13 rating.  From the reviews that I’ve read, it does.  read more…Movie Reviews for Parents, Get Smart

Hulk Themed American Gladiator Episode

Watch Wolf Sing To Crush on American Gladiators

It is rumored that Lou Ferrigno will guest host an episode of American Gladiators to promote the new movie, “The Incredible Hulk”.  Holy cow! How many times are they going to remake this dang movie? When will they stop? There are so many other good movies they could remake over and over again. Stop Hollywood, stop! They are never any good. Give up on The Incredible Hulk! Ok, now I’m done. I feel better now that I got that out of my system. Thanks for listening. Have a good day. Read more here

Kathleen Turner, Send Yourself Roses

Book review: Send Yourself Roses: Thoughts on my Life, Love, and Leading Roles, by Kathleen Turner, published in 2008.

I recently read the book Send Yourself Roses by Kathleen Turner. I don’t read biographies. The last one I read was in 1995, It’s always Something, by Gilda Radner. Because I am a fan and heard that Nicolas Cage was suing over some things Mrs. Turner said in the book, I had to read it. I’m glad I did. It was good.

She told a little story about each movie she was in, such as Romancing the Stone. Michael Douglas, Danny DeVito and Kathleen really hit it off. She stated that during the filming, Michael and his wife were going through a separation. She didn’t have a relationship at the time, either, and began to fall in love.

I found it entertaining the way she lets everyone have it. She obviously doesn’t worry about angering her fellow actors. If they did something to upset her, they are going to hear about it. Maybe even in a published book. For example, Christie Brinkley stood her up a few times. She was supposed to see Kathleen’s play and was a no show more than once. Aparently Christie felt bad and sent a gift. Kathleen says she sent it right back saying “You can’t buy friendship” or something like that.  Nicolas Cage filed suit against her for claiming he had been arrested for DUI twice and once stole a chihuahua he liked.

She tells about her struggles with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I knew nothing about the disease but now I know that it is terrible. It’s good to be informed. (Click here for her official website)

Anyway, if you are a also a fan, love her movies, or have Rumatoid Arthritis, I recommend this book. A word of warning, though. F-WORD THIS, F-WORD THAT, F_CK, F_CK, F_CK. I don’t swear, and all the f_words in this book were a little surprising to me. Kathleen Turner must have been a truck driver in a former life!

Complaints About Zohan

The upcomming  PG-13  movie, You Don’t Mess With the Zohan, comes out June 6. It stars Adam Sandler and looks like it will be funny. The problem is, they are showing the movie trailer during children’s movies like Speed Racer. They make it look like it would be a good movie for kids to see. Then they show a DIFFERENT preview (at the same theatre) during the movie Iron Man and this trailer shows some ‘sexual connotations’. Obviously, Hollywood thinks it’s just fine to trick us into taking our kids to a movie that is inappropriate for them.  The rating is listed as “Rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content throughout, language and nudity”. Holy cow! If this is the case, they shouldn’t change the trailer to appeal to younger kids and advertise it during a movie that is rated PG (Speed Racer)!

This is the trailer shown during Speed Racer:

This is the trailer seen one day later (at the same theatre) during Iron Man:

Iron Man was a great movie!

Iron ManWe went to see Iron Man and really enjoyed it. I haven’t ever seen a movie with Robert Downey Jr that made an impact, but he was excellent as Tony Stark. He did a great job. Until I saw Iron Man, I didn’t even realize he was cute. But it turns out, he’s a handsome guy. Who knew? Jeff Bridges did a great job as Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger. You know, we just don’t see enough of him anymore. One of my least favorite actresses, Gwyneth Paltrow (click here to see why), was in the movie. In spite of that, it was definately worth seeing. I thought it was a great story and enjoyed the entire movie. As far as it being OK for kids to watch? I’m not taking mine to see it. I think the PG-13 rating was a wise choice. I think the ‘hole in the chest’ thing would freak out the young ones. As far as the PG-13 rating goes for the ‘action sequences’, it was comparable to the Transformers (with a little more blood).

Speed Racer Review, Blood & Swearing, Thumbs up!

I took the kids to see the over-two-hour-long movie, Speed Racer, and they loved it. I was glad it was a long movie because we were really enjoying it. They liked it so much that they convinced their grandma to take them to see it again the next day. She also gave the movie a thumbs up.  We all recommend it. However, I do want to comment on the ‘inappropriate’ things that were in the movie. The youngest brother, Spritle, flips the bad guy the bird. Yes, that’s right. A kid sticks up his middle finger in a kids movie. What’s the world coming to? Also, they say the word ASS about three times and HELL a couple of times as well. There is a little blood, where a guy gets beaten by the bad guys while tied to a chair. One guy gets his finger eaten off by piranhas (no, I’m not making this up). It doesn’t show too many details, just blood in the water. It didn’t traumatise my kids, though. Other than these things that I’ve mentioned, the rest of the movie was great. My kids liked the comic relief of the little kid, Spritle, and the monkey. The boy was played by Paulie Litt. They also enjoyed the bad guy’s temper tantrums and the peoples faces floating across the screen as they talked.  I liked the way the movie was put together. It was interesting and different. A lot of bright colors and extreme close ups. Click here to see Speed Racer’s Official Website

Creepy Occurrences: Poltergeist Movie

There were some strange occurrences reported by Jo Beth Williams during the filming of the Poltergeist movies. She said that in the evenings when she went home the lights were on when she was SURE she had turned them off. It creeped her out. Four people who worked on the movies have passed away, as well. My source for this information is the show: “E! True Hollywood Story, Curse of Poltergeist (2002)” It was very interesting and creepy, too! But I couldn’t tear myself away. . .I had to watch it. . .

One of the comments on the IMDB expresses my feelings on this special perfectly: “I don’t know which is scarier the Poltergeist Movies or this documentary E! made about them. This Documentary will shake you up a little bit, as E! talks about all the freakish events that took place during each of the three Poltergeist films including one very horrific event that took place during Poltergeist II involving the bodies that were brought in as props. Everyone on set was told they were fake, Craig T. Nelson discovered that these bodies were real. The stage hands got the props mixed up and got a cargo of real bodies.”

1982: Dominique Dunn died at age 22 when her ex-boyfriend turned stalker killed her just outside her home. It was such a sad story. She was with a guy who was reportedly scared and didn’t go out to help her. This guy who didn’t help was one of her costars from the show she was working on called “V”. read more. . .

1985: Julian Beck who played the ‘bad spirit’ in Poltergeist II, died of stomach cancer.

1987: Will Sampson who played the ‘good spirit’ in Poltergeist II, died after receiving a heart-lung transplant.

1988: Heather O’Rourke, the young girl in all three movies. She died of a septic infection

27 Yrs. Later, Indiana Jones & Marion Ravenwood Return

karenallen.jpg4.jpg3.jpg2.jpg1.jpg

George Lucas & Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be released May 22, 2008. Karen Allen from Raiders of the Lost Ark returns as Marion Ravenwood. I’m glad she’ll be back, I liked her in Raiders. From the pictures I found, it looks like she’s found the fountain of youth. It looks like she hasn’t aged much at all in the twenty-seven years since Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed. Crystal Skull is the forth movie. So far, the most memorable of the Jones movies are Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. I have no idea what happened with the Temple of Doom. What they were thinking? I have yet to find a single person that enjoyed that episode. It was as bad as a movie can get. It’s quite a contrast between Temple of Doom and the other two Indiana Jones movies. Shia LeBeouf from Transformers and the show Even Stevens will be in Skull as Mutt Williams. Unfortunately, Sean Connery will not be returning. Connery was approached for a cameo appearance as Henry Jones Sr., Indiana’s father, but he turned it down, finding retirement too enjoyable. George Lucas later stated that it was good that Jones Sr. did not appear, as it would disappoint the audience when he would not come along for the adventure. Harrison Ford joked that he was old enough to play his own father, so Sean wasn’t needed anymore.
