Godzilla, Blue Oyster Cult

Posted by prettysleepy on July 21, 2008

As a teen, I used to listen to this album (on something called a ‘record player’-see picture on right) over and over. Here is a great song from the album, Extraterrestrial Live, by Blue Oyster Cult: called Godzilla. I heard it on a commercial today and I remembered this song. Someone made this music video, they did a pretty good job. I also included my other favorite fromt this album below, Veteran of the Psychic Wars.

Lyrics:

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway train
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh no, they say hes got to go
Go go godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes tokyo
Go go godzilla, yeah

Rinji news o moshiagemasu!
Rinji news o moshiagemasu!
Godzilla ga ginza hoomen e mukatte imasu!
Daishkyu hinan shite kudasai!
Daishkyu hinan shite kudasai!

Oh no, they say hes got to go
Go go godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes tokyo
Go go godzilla, yeah

History shows again and again
How nature points up the folly of men
Godzilla!

Sea Wolf “You’re a Wolf” Song & Video

Posted by prettysleepy on July 5, 2008

This is a great song. The lyrics and info on Sea Wolf are below:

“You’re a Wolf”

I’m walking on the southern street, cut to the river ‘fore I run too low.
I’m walking on the southern street, cut to the river ‘fore I run too low.

Old gypsy woman spoke to me, lips stained red from a bottle of wine.
Old gypsy woman spoke to me, lips stained red from a bottle of wine.
“The one that you are looking for, you’re not gonna find her here.”
“The one that you are looking for, you’re not gonna find her here, here.”

I’m runnin’ on the northeast street, cut to the ocean ‘fore I run too low.
I’m runnin’ on the northeast street, cut to the ocean ‘fore I run too low,
Cut to the ocean ‘fore I run too low.
“The one that you are looking for, you’re not gonna find her here.”
“The one that you are looking for, you’re not gonna find her here, here.”

Old gypsy woman spoke to me, said, “You’re a wolf, boy, get out of this town.”
Old gypsy woman spoke to me, said, “You’re a wolf, boy, get out of this town.”
“You’re a wolf, boy, get out of this town.”
“You’re a wolf, boy, get out of this town.”
“You’re a wolf.”
“You’re a wolf.”
“You’re a wolf.”

3 Doors Down - Away from the sun

Posted by prettysleepy on April 6, 2008

It’s down to this
I’ve got to make this life make sense
Can anyone tell what I’ve done
I missed the life
I missed the colours of the world
Can anyone tell where I am

‘Cause now again I’ve found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place
I’m so far down, away from the sun again
Away from the sun again

I’m over this
I’m tired of living in the dark
Can anyone see me down here
The feeling’s gone
There’s nothing left to lift me up
Back into the world I’ve known

‘Cause now again I’ve found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place
I’m so far down, away from the sun
That shines the life away from me
To find my way back into the arms
That care about the ones like me
I’m so far down, away from the sun again

It’s down to this
I’ve got to make this life make sense
And now I can’t do what I’ve done

And now again I’ve found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines the life away from me

‘Cause now again I’ve found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place
I’m so far down, away from the sun
That shines the life away from me
To find my way back into the arms
That care about the ones like me
I’m so far down, away from the sun again

Two Great Loser Songs

Posted by prettysleepy on April 6, 2008

Three Doors Down “Loser”

(Official website) 3 Doors Down is an American post-grunge rock band formed in Mississippi in 1994 by Brad Arnold (vocals and drums), Matt Roberts (guitar) and Todd Harrell (bass). The band signed to Universal Records after the success of their song “Kryptonite”. The band has since sold well over 13 million albums in the United States alone since their debut album, The Better Life, was released in 2000. I found this “Loser” music video on youtube with clips from the video game, Kingdom Hearts (an excellent game).

breathe in right away nothing seems to fill this place I need this every time
take your lies get off my case some day i will find a love that flows through me
like this This will fall away this will fall away

you’re getting closer to pushing me off of life’s little edge cause i’m a loser
and sooner or later you know i’ll be dead you’re getting closer you’re holding
the rope and i’m taking the fall cause i’m a loser i’m a loser yeah

this is getting old i can’t break these chains that i hold my body’s growing
cold there’s nothin left of this mind or my soul addiction needs a pacifier the
buzz of this poison is taking me higher this will fall away this will fall away

you’re getting closer to pushing me off of life’s little edge cause i’m a loser
and sooner or later you know i’ll be dead you’re getting closer you’re holding
the rope and i’m taking the fall cause i’m a loser i’m a loser

you’re getting closer to pushing me off of life’s little edge cause i’m a loser
and sooner or later you know i’ll be dead you’re getting closer you’re holding
the rope and i’m taking the fall cause i’m a loser i’m a loser

you’re getting closer to pushing me off of life’s little edge cause i’m a loser
and sooner or later you know i’ll be dead you’re getting closer you’re holding
the rope and i’m taking the fall cause i’m a loser i’m a loser

Beck “Loser”, For more about Beck, click here

In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey
butane in my veins and I’m out to cut the junkie
with the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
kill the headlights and put it in neutral
stock car flamin’ with a loser and the cruise control
baby’s in Reno with the vitamin D
got a couple of couches, sleep on the love-seat
someone came in sayin’ I’m insane to complain
about a shotgun wedding and a stain on my shirt
don’t believe everything that you breathe
you get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve
so shave your face with some mace in the dark
savin’ all your food stamps and burnin’ down the trailer park

(yo. Cut it.)

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?

(double-barrel buckshy)

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?

Forces of evil on a bozo nightmare
ban all the music with a phony gas chamber
‘cuz one’s got a weasel and the other’s got a flag
one’s on the pole, shove the other in a bag
with the rerun shows and the cocaine nose-job
the daytime crap of the folksinger slob
he hung himself with a guitar string
a slab of turkey-neck and it’s hangin’ from a pigeon wing
you can’t write if you can’t relate
trade the cash for the beef for the body for the hate
and my time is a piece of wax fallin’ on a termite
that’s chokin’ on the splinters

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(get crazy with the cheeze whiz)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(drive-by body-pierce)
(yo bring it on down)
soooooooyy….
(chorus backwards)
(I’m a driver, I’m the winner; things are gonna change I can feel it)

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(I can’t believe you)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
[repeat]
(Sprechen sie Deutches, baby)
Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?
(Know what I’m sayin’?)

A Little Beck Trivia and Lost Cause

Posted by prettysleepy on April 6, 2008

Beck was born July 8, 1970 in LA. His real name is Bek David Campbell. He dropped out of high school in the mid 1980’s. Beck is a Scientologist, as are his wife and his father. His music is difficult to place into a single genre. Some have likened the absurdist, free-flowing lyrical style and the folk songs of his early career to Bob Dylan. In several albums beginning in the late 1990s, Beck developed a slower, more melancholy sound, merging his trademark “junkyard” style with psychedelic rock, electronic, Brazilian Tropicalia. To most listeners, Odelay (1996) and Sea Change (2002), two of Beck’s most popular recordings, represent polar opposite musical styles. Odelay was awarded Album of the Year by American magazine Rolling Stone and by UK publications NME and Mojo. Odelay also received a Grammy nomination for Best Album.

This is the song ‘Lost Cause’ by Beck (Beck’s Strange Official Website) from ‘Sea Change’

Your sorry eyes, they cut through bone.
They make it hard to leave you alone.
Leave you here wearing your wounds
Waving your guns at somebody new.

Baby Im a lost
Baby Im a lost
Baby Im a lost cause.

Theres too many people you used to know
They see you coming they see you go.
They know your secrets and you know theirs
This town is crazy, but nobody cares.

Baby Im a lost
Baby Im a lost
Baby Im a lost cause.
Im tired of fighting
Im tired of fighting
Fighting for a lost cause

Theres a place where you are going
You aint never been before
Theres no one laughing at your back now
No one standing at your door
Is that what you thought love was for?

Baby Im a lost
Baby Im a lost
Baby Im a lost cause
Im tired of fighting
Im tired of fighting
Fighting for a lost cause.

#1 Song of The Nineties - Smooth

Posted by prettysleepy on March 15, 2008

According to Billboard’s Hottest Hot 100 Hits by Fred Bronson, “Smooth” is the #1 song of The Nineties. ”Smooth” is a duet by Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas. It is rumored that originally, Thomas thought to have George Michael sing the song (what could he have been thinking?).  The song won three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. It spent a record-breaking ten consecutive weeks at the top of the VSpot Top 20 Countdown.

Matchbox 20’s official website

Man it’s a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper and the words that melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My Muequita, my Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa
You’re my reason for reason
The step in my groove
Yeah, yeah

And if you said this life ain’t good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you’re so smooth

And it’s just like the ocean under the moon
Well that’s the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin’ that could be so smooth yeah,
Give me your heart
Make it real
Or else forget about it

Well I’ll tell you one thing
If you would leave it’d be a crying shame
In every breath and every word
I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio, you hear my rhythm on your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you round and round round, yeah

And if you said this life ain’t good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you’re so smooth

And it’s just like the ocean under the moon
Well that’s the same as the emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin’ that could be so smooth
Give me your heart
Make it real
Or else forget about it

Or let’s forget about it (repeat)

OneRepublic - Stop And Stare

Posted by prettysleepy on March 14, 2008

Here’s a song by OneRepublic called Stop and Stare. I’m a little confused by the video though. They are digging a grave and I can’t figure out who died. It almost looks like the guy runs over himself with the car while his wife is having a baby in the back seat. It’s a little disturbing.

This town is colder now
I think it’s sick of us
It’s time to make our move
I’m shakin’ off the rust
I’ve got my heart set
on anywhere but here
I’m staring down myself, counting up the years
Steady hands just take the wheel
Every glance is killing me
Time to make one last appeal for the life I lead

Stop and stare
I think I’m moving, but I go nowhere
Yeah, I know that everyone gets scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be
Ohhh

Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you’re here not there
And you’d give anything to get what’s fair
But fair ain’t what you really need
Oh, can you see what I see

[Stop & Stare lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

They’re tryin’ to come back, all my senses push
Untie the weight bags I never thought I could
Steady feet don’t fail me now,
I’m a run till you can’t walk
But something pulls my focus out, and I’m standing down.

Stop and stare
I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah, I know that everyone get scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be
Whoa!!!
Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you’re here not there
And you’d give anything to get what’s fair
But fair ain’t what you really need
Oh, you don’t need

Stop and stare
I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah, I know that everyone get scared
I’ve become what I can’t be
Oh, do you see what I see?
