Mystery Migo Kid’s Cell Phone - Part 1

Posted by prettysleepy on January 13, 2007

p1130001.JPGMy mom and I decided to get my child his first cell phone. There were several reasons for this, but without going into a lot of details, let me just say that it also has a type of GPS system where we can locate him via computer or another phone equipped with a GPS. This is called ‘chaperone’. At the phone store, I told the sales person we wanted the most ‘simple to use’ phone available. Apparently that is the Migo (see photo Above). There were none in stock so, he said one would be overnighted to us. I was slightly concerned about getting it activated when it arrived. He said it would come with a number to call (*228) that would activate it. Just call that number from the phone when it arrives. Then there was a problem.

Please view the picture above before reading further. Click on it for a close up view. If you figure out what the problem was before reading on, please let me know so I can feel even stupider.

Now that you have looked at the Migo phone again, can you think of any reason why I was having a problem? It is a funny thing, but until I was actually holding it and getting ready to dial the number (*228), I didn’t even realize there was a problem. I did eventually put two and two together. Sometimes I am a little slow, I know. But guess what? There is no keypad. You can’t dial out on this phone. Huh. There are four places to store preset numbers for your child, but no keypad.

Well, that is about where I am with the phone right now. I will be posting a couple updates on this, one once I get it working and a MIGO review after our child has tried it out.
